Macau has its very first dedicated eSports stadium venue after eSports organizer Kowloon E-Stadium yesterday launched Macau E-Stadium at Studio City.
The venue, which will host local, regional and international eSports events, covers 10,000 square feet on Studio City’s second floor and can seat 274 guests.
“We chose Macau E-Stadium to be set up in Studio City because our team believes it is the first priority for entertainment for many visitors coming from China and for Macau’s youth,” said Roy Kwong, Founder of Kowloon E-Stadium Ltd & Macau E-Stadium.
“I think Macau is the best location for all of China’s eSports players to reach out to the world.”
Studio City Property President Geoff Andres said, “eSports is a trend that’s going around Asia and the world, a truly fascinating phenomenon.”
He added that the property’s operator, Melco Resorts, “got this idea to partner with Kowloon E-Stadium to develop an eSports stadium full time” after an event held at Studio City in April attracted 3,000 visitors.
“We are very excited to see how this catches and develops here, we’ve got a great environment to work with,” Andres said.
He also compared eSports with the evolution of football, stating that in spite of being a new discipline in Macau it has the potential to attract large numbers of people in the long term.
“eSports is about observing people that are experts in their field performing at a very high level in a competitive environment and it’s fun, so it will be great to see how this evolves,” he said.
