The boss of the All Japan Poker Championships has flagged further regional expansion for the tournament series after its biggest ever event attracted 1,149 registrations to Paradise City in Incheon, Korea, in late May.
Running from 18 to 27 May, the latest AJPC Circuit Event was the first to run for 10 days with CEO Yasuhiro Sasaki stating his intention to look for more event locations in the coming months.
“We have seen an increase in event registrations of more than 1.5 times since our launch of the AJPC Asian Circuit,” he said. “The circuit is also seeing players from not only Japan, but China, Taiwan and throughout Asia, who want to join in.
“Our goal is to continue the series growth in Asia; we are currently scouting additional locations for future overseas tournaments in 2018 and beyond.”
The next AJPC Asian Circuit event will be held from 14 to 18 June in Taiwan at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Club in New Taipei City – also representing the launch of a partnership between AJPC Inc and the Taiwan-based Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association.
The AJPC said it attracted 3,143 players in 2017, noting that it holds the only official Japan Satellite of the World Series of Poker.
Hideo Miyamoto was crowned Main Event champion of the Incheon event, taking home KRW43,182,000 (US$40,285).
