Universal Entertainment Corporation has announced that it has decided to file criminal complaints and civil lawsuits against Aruze Gaming America, Inc (AGA) and Kazuo Okada seeking the compensation of damages for violating patent and other rights.
The suits will be filed in four separate jurisdictions – the United States, Macau, the Philippines and Hong Kong – with Universal claiming that AGA had “illegally used patents on gaming machines belonging to the company to conduct the sales of gaming machines” in each jurisdiction.
Universal had previously filed a patent infringement lawsuit against AGA and Okada in March but “has decided to file criminal complaints and civil lawsuits based on violation of its patent rights and other rights against AGA Group companies and Kazuo Okada.”
The amount of compensation being pursued is yet to be determined.
AGA was originally a subsidiary of the company but Universal sold its entire stake in AGA to Okada in 2010.
