Wynn Resorts has revealed its intention to create an entire entertainment district rather than a single IR structure should it be granted a Japan casino license, describing a “critical mass of attractions” during a presentation to the Japan Gaming Congress on Thursday.
Delivering the company’s “operator vision” at JgC, President of Wynn Development Chris Gordon said that Wynn Resorts was targeting a major city site where it could develop a series of iconic structures and open public spaces.
“What we envision is not one big building, it should be an entertainment district different to anything we’ve done before,” he said.
“It would incorporate multiple buildings, multiple hotels and a space to wander around in the open.
“Wynn Resorts envisions creating a new Japanese district just as there are other city districts, with both large and medium sized buildings.”
Gordon said that Wynn’s IR plan included a large iconic theater to attract world-class entertainment acts as well as a smaller theater and nightclubs to provide people with options after a meal.
Key to the project would be a large open public space with a Japanese theme as well as a series of large capacity hotels.
“An outdoor public green space is very important,” he said, adding that Wynn’s IR would also be a distinctly Japanese resort.
“If someone travels to Japan they are here to see Japan,” he said. “We would still clearly have themes of our company but it would be quintessentially Japanese.
“We would also make the non-gaming aspects part of the fabric of the resort.
“Our concept with creating an entertainment district in a destination city is that by providing guests with an almost endless array of options both within and outside of the resort, they will not only have good reason to stay longer but will also want to come back.”
