MGM Cotai’s ultra-luxury The Mansion villas are unlikely to open until September, according to MGM China CEO and Executive Director Grant Bowie.
Speaking during parent company MGM Resorts’ fourth quarter and full year 2017 earnings call this week, Bowie said that The Mansion – a private enclave within the property housing 27 villas ranging in size from 215 to 570 square meters each – will be the “last piece in the puzzle” for MGM Cotai but warned it would likely be another seven months before they come online.
“The junkets we’re looking to try and get in around June, July and it looks like with The Mansion, just getting all the details finished, we’ll be opened in September,” Bowie said.
“Critically for us first is we want to get moving on the junkets, so they might come on a little earlier than The Mansion and once the junkets are in, then The Mansion will be the last piece of the puzzle for us to lock in.”
Bowie said that The Mansion would give MGM Cotai, which opened its doors to the public following a lavish ceremony on 13 February, an offering unlike anything else in Macau.
“The Mansion will be totally unique. I don’t think that specific product actually exists yet,” he said.
“There are some beautiful suites in other properties, but I think the whole private, personal part of what The Mansion has created in Las Vegas being injected into Macau, I think it’s extremely unique and that’s all part of this dream that we’ll bring on later in the year.”
MGM confirmed last week that five junket operators would be launching VIP Clubs at MGM Cotai in 2018.
