Recently formed poker tour, the All Japan Poker Championship (AJPC), has outlined plans to push into new Asian markets in 2018, headed by Macau, Korea and Taiwan.
According to CEO Yasuhiro Sasaki, the AJPC is responding to the growing popularity of poker across japan and will fulfil the desire of many Japanese players to attend larger events outside of their home country.
“2018 will see the AJPC look to grow our circuits outside of Japan. This is in response to our player’s desire to enjoy tournaments overseas, with a focus on Incheon, Taiwan, Macau, and potentially other destinations in Southeast Asia. We look forward to working closely with local partners to bring a premium overseas experience to Japanese players, while welcoming local players from each location as well.”
No dates or venues have been set at this stage for the new markets.
The AJPC announced the launch of its new international poker tour in December with the aim of “developing one of the largest circuits in Asia.
The tour’s first ever event was held at Paradise City in Incheon, South Korea where it attracted a total of 784 entries across 10 events. The AJPC said its Japanese circuit drew 3,143 players from across the country in 2017.
The AJPC describes itself as an organization “focused on further developing the game of poker for Japanese players with a strategy to promote events both inside and outside of Japan.”
