A Macau croupier and his mother were arrested on Monday after they were caught siphoning chips from the tables he worked, the Judiciary Police has revealed.
In a press conference detailing the scheme, which took place over a number of sessions between July and November, a Judiciary Police spokesman revealed that the pair had been caught out by security at an unspecified casino in Cotai after the croupier was observed paying a woman more chips than she had rightfully won on multiple winning hands. The woman was later revealed to be his mother. The son was also witnessed chipping the woman up by double the correct amount when exchanging chips at the end of each session.
In total, security observed 51 separate incidents of the son wrongly paying his mother and calculated the casino’s loss at HK$130,000. However, upon their arrest on 6 November the pair revealed they had actually profited by around HK$900,000 since they first trialed their scheme in July.
