Humanoid robots developed by Shenzhen-based Qihan and cloud computing technology by Alibaba will be among the major technological advancements on display at this year’s MGS Entertainment Show, to be held at the Venetian Macao from 14 to 16 November 2017.
MGS is spruiking the benfits of technology this year, with this year’s focus on the innovations that are shaping the smart city of the near future. As a result, a number of leading technology companies have signed up to show off tech advances that would have seemed like science fiction at MGS’s inception five years ago.
Qihan, which has become a leading player in video analysis since its founding in 2006, last year exploded onto the service robotics scene with the launch of their line of Sanbot robots. Beginning with a service industry robot called Elf, Sanbot made ins with airport services and border security, as well as with shopping malls and entertainment venues.
The emotionally expressive, touch-sensitive, thermal-scanning, disco-dancing, multi-lingual Elf is showing that human-robot interactions are the future. This year, Sanbot introduced Elf’s bigger, stronger, faster and more human-like younger sibling King Kong. Both Elf and King Kong will be fully charged and ready for a meet and greet at the Qihan booth.
Just as relevant to the smart city of our future is Alibaba’s cloud computing service. Alibaba Cloud. Alibaba Cloud provides services like website hosting and batch email management, but their progress on the leading edge of data analytics and the machine learning field of artificial intelligence is impressive. Alibaba Cloud is China’s largest provider of public cloud computing services and this summer they entered into an agreement with the Macau SAR to bring improvements to the territory’s infrastructure for tourism, healthcare, transportation, and government, as well as to improve the professional training in information technology available to students in Macau so as to support the labor needs of Macau’s smart-city ambitions. The innovations made by Alibaba Cloud are promising to transform Macau and cities throughout China.
Advanced analytics and facial recognition have already permeated the video surveillance market thanks to companies like Hikvision. With a presence on every populated continent, Hikvision is a leading international player affecting the public’s security and privacy. The ability of their surveillance technology to piece together a narrow set of relevant events from a vast supply of video footage has changed the way investigations and security monitoring are conducted. Technologies developed by companies like Hikvision are the eyes of the smart city.
A number of major technology related companies will be showcasing their products and services alongside more traditional gaming and entertainment players and businesses in the industries surrounding them.
