Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has launched an expanded responsible gambling awareness campaign aimed for the first time at visitors to the Asian gaming hub.
The campaign will see videos screened on Macau’s buses alongside standard TV and radio advertising as the government looks to reach a wider audience. Promotional material will be distributed at various points of entry to attract tourist attention.
Speaking at the Responsible Gambling Promotions Kick Off Ceremony this week, DICJ Director Paulo Martins Chan said it was important that visitors as well as locals had access to responsible gambling information where required.
He added that casino staff were another target of the campaign, with the DICJ inviting Macau’s casino operators to participate in the shooting of responsible gambling videos to be broadcast in casinos and associated hotels.
The new campaign follows an earlier announcement this week that the DICJ will hold a one month public consultation period regarding a proposed ban on local casino workers from entering gaming floors outside of work hours.
The ban – which would apply to dealers and floor staff but not to administration, security or non-gaming employees – proposes issuing workers found on a gaming floor outside of work hours with a fine of between MOP$1,000 and MOP$10,000.
The public consultation period will run from 27 September to 26 October 2017.
