The number of job vacancies in Macau’s gaming sector jumped 57.2% to 923 during the second quarter of 2017, up 336 from the 587 vacancies during the same period in 2016 according to latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The jump follows the opening of a number of new properties over the past 12 months, including Cotai integrated resorts Wynn Palace and The Parisian Macao as well as Legend Palace and Jai Alai on the Peninsula. The majority of the vacancies, 51.1%, were for dealers and clerks.
The number of full-time employees in the gaming sector as of 30 June 2017 was similar to 12 months earlier at 55,726, which the number of dealers dropping by 1.3% to 23,980.
A total of 1,035 new employees were hired during the second quarter, up by 56.8% from 660 in the same quarter of 2016. The employee recruitment rate (1.9%), employee turnover rate (1.7%) and job vacancy rate (1.6%) rose by 0.7%, 0.2% and 0.6% respectively year-on-year.
Average earnings of full-time employees in the sector increased 4.6% to MOP$23,080 with the averahe wage of dealers up 5.1% to MOP$19,930.
In terms of recruitment prerequisites, 30.9% required work experience while 73.1% required senior secondary education or lower. Requirement for knowledge of Mandarin and English accounted for 65.7% and 35.1% respectively. The sector also had 57,934 participants attend training courses provided by the company, down 27.0% year-on-year. Most participants attended courses in Gaming & Entertainment Services (45.6%), followed by Business & Administration (28.2%).
