Work has resumed on SJM Holdings’ new Cotai property, Grand Lisboa Palace, six-and-a-half weeks after construction was suspended following the death of a 47-year-old worker.
SJM Chief Executive Officer Dr Ambrose So confirmed to reporters that the company was given the green light to start work again on Wednesday, although it may take slightly longer for the contractor to put its full workforce back in place.
“Of course, we have already lost about seven to eight weeks,” Dr So said. “We are trying to readjust the program of construction so we can catch up with the schedule.
“We still expect that we can open in the second half of 2018.”
Permission to resume construction comes five days after Melco Resorts was granted permission to do the same on its Morpheus hotel tower after a 33-year-old man was killed by a falling beam on site two weeks ago.
