Liverpool Football Club legends Robbie Fowler and Sami Hyppia conducted the first ever LFC Soccer Clinic in Macau last week with more than 60 young local soccer enthusiasts given a rare opportunity to have an up-close encounter with the legends and coaches of LFC at Taipa Olympic Sports Centre.
Organized by MGM, the clinic included two coaching sessions led by highly experienced LFC Academy coaches which were attended by 64 local young soccer players between 6 and 14 years old. The participants included members of The Football Youth Academy, youth recruited by the Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau (YMCA) and children of MGM’s staff.
The group was then greeted by Robbie Fowler and Hyypia, who shared their inspirational stories and tips with the young soccer players as a way to motivate and encourage youth to pursue their favorite sport. Mr Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR also attended to observe the Soccer Clinic.
Ms Sarah Rogers, MGM’s Senior Vice President of Strategy & Corporate Responsibility said of the event, “One of MGM’s major areas of focus within the community is to support Macau’s youth and today’s event is a great way for them to pursue their love for sports, a healthy lifestyle and the understanding of the importance of teamwork. We are delighted to provide these young soccer fans with valuable experiences and hope that the LFC Legends will create great inspiration for them.”
Hyypia, one of Liverpool’s greatest defenders, said, “It’s great to see MGM’s philanthropic and community presence in Macau. As the world’s greatest football family it’s a great pleasure to be here to deliver some great memories for the youth of Macau.”
“I am a die-hard fan of LFC” said by Sou Hin Nang, a student from The Football Youth. “It is a dream-come-true to me and if you want to be the best, you must learn from the best. Even though it is a short encounter today, I have learned a lot from the coaches and the Legends which makes me want to keep practicing my soccer skills until I succeed.”
