Imperial Pacific International says it will officially launch casino operations at its new Imperial Pacific Resort (IPI) in Saipan by 15 July after it was finally given the green light by the Commonwealth Casino Commission.
As reported by Marianas Variety, the commission’s approval remains dependent on IPI having at least 250 rooms completed, with the Lottery Commission already making amendments to the casino license agreement to allow casino operations to begin before all construction has been finalized
“There were a lot of gray areas that needed to be clarified if the live training was to move into the new facility,” said Lottery Commission Chairman Mark Rabauliman. “It was not clearly defined in terms of how they could move in, and that’s why we’re here. That has been addressed … the casino commission wasn’t able to entertain the request of IPI to move and go live because of Section 10 of the casino license agreement. So we amended it and inserted some language to clearly define how the IPI can move into the new facility. This amendment basically allows IPI to move into the new facility when the casino commission gives them the green light.”
IPI representatives said they were confident of having the property ready by mid-July and expect to complete the transfer of materials and assets from the company’s temporary facility within 10 days.
Commission vice chairman Joseph Reyes said, “They have been granted conditional approval already, so they can proceed with their next plan. The licensee has complied with all our requests, and the agreement has been signed by the AG and all parties concerned, so it’s now time to give them the green light.”
