The World Series of Poker is heading back to Sydney with The Star announcing it will host the WSOP Sydney circuit event for the second consecutive year from 28 November to 18 December 2017.
It follows a hugely successful Sydney debut in 2016 that saw the biggest field ever assembled at a WSOP international circuit event hit the felt in The Star Poker room.
This year’s series will feature 13 events in 21 days and a total minimum prize pool of AU$3.8 million. The AU$2,2000 Main Event will come with an AU$2 million guaranteed prize pool.
Other events on the schedule include an AU$20,000 buy-in High Rollers Event, a AU$1,100 Monster Stack Event plus a Masters Event, mixed games, Omaha events and more.
The Star Sydney is the only Australian stop on the 2017/18 WSOP International Circuit, which will visit more than 16 international venues.
“The World Series of Poker is the biggest and the best tournament series in the world and we couldn’t be happier to be bringing the Australian leg of the international circuit back to The Star for the second year running,” said WSOP Director Gregory Chochon. “Last year’s circuit event at The Star poker room was the biggest international circuit event we’ve ever held and we’re thrilled to be doing it all again.”
Two players from the Sydney circuit – the Main Event winner and the overall casino champion – will also win a seat in the 2018 WSOP Global Casino Championship, which has a US$1 million prize pool. The casino champion title will be awarded to the player who accrues the most points based on their performances across 11 events.
