MGM demonstrated its support for “Macau Energy Conservation Week 2017” between 11 and 17 June by organizing a wide array of initiatives to raise team members’ awareness of energy conservation.
On 12 June, MGM kicked off its internal campaign with “Green Monday” in the employee dining room, where a low-carbon and healthy menu was served to team members. That evening the company joined the “Lights-Off” action, one of the highlights of the “Macau Energy Conservation Week 2017,” to switch off non-essential exterior lighting of the property for one hour. MGM also participated in the “Casual Wear Day” to encourage team members to wear cooler clothing to keep air-conditioning at acceptable levels as a way to conserve energy.
To collect creative ideas on energy conservation, MGM launched an “Energy Saving Ideas Competition” to encourage team members to submit their energy saving ideas for at work or at home. Furthermore, MGM also welcomed local electricity supplier, CEM, to give an “Energy Saving Talk” to its team members, focusing on how energy can be saved at home through mindful consumption and better understanding of energy bills.
The company also hosted several Energy Saving Tours at the property’s back-of-house area, offering team members a first-hand insight on how MGM has managed to reduce energy consumption by 30% since 2008. The tour included visits to the large infrastructure and various systems that the company has invested in to ensure continued year-on-year reduction in energy consumption.
An Energy Saving Tour was also provided to the University of Macau’s Department of Electromechanical Engineering as a way to share how MGM has integrated energy efficiency into MGM’s engineering ethos and systems. MGM was the only company in Macau to be invited to deliver a talk on its energy conservation measures at the Hong Kong’s Business Environment Council’s “Energy Efficiency Technologies Mini-Expo and Seminar” for Hotels and the Food & Beverage Sector.
