Philippines’ House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas has threatened to issue an arrest warrant for Chairman of Resorts World Manila (RWM) operator Travellers International Hotel Group, David Chua Ming Huat, if he doesn’t appear at the congressional inquiry into the 2 June attack on RWM.
In a dramatic turn of events during the second inquiry of three committees of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, it was agreed that a subpoena be issued against Mr Chua, who owns around 30% of RWM.
According to RWM President Kingson Sian, Mr Chua left the Philippines on 11 June to return to his home in Hong Kong. However, Mr Fariñas said, “He might not choose to come here so it will be up to him. If he will not appear, what comes after that is a warrant of arrest.”
Mr Fariñas added that, “Under the law, they (executives) are the ones liable for the acts of the corporation, not the stockholders. A corporation has a personality separate and distinct from its stockholders.”
