Melco Crown Entertainment Limited has announced the immediate change of its corporate identity to Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd and the rebranding of its existing Hard Rock Hotel at City of Dreams Macau.
The company’s NASDAQ stock ticker name will officially change from MPEL to MLCO in the coming days, the latest step in a major ownership restructure that saw Melco International Development Ltd assume majority ownership in February when it lifted its stake from 37.9% to 51.3%. Conversely, Crown Resorts has sold down its stake from a high of 34.3% to just 11.2%.
Meanwhile, Hard Rock Hotel will operate under the name “The Countdown” from July 2017 until 31 March 2018, when City of Dreams’ new luxury hotel Morpheus will be unveiled.
The Countdown Hotel will “celebrate the great achievements of City of Dreams”, while a clock will countdown to the grand opening of Morpheus, the Dame Zaha Hadid-designed hotel that will include fine dining restaurants, retail space and a new gaming area.
The Countdown Hotel will also be given a new name once the clock hits zero.
Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Mr Lawrence Ho, said, “We are now counting down to the best ever City of Dreams: a resort that will take our guests where no one has taken them before, redefining what a modern integrated resort has to offer.”
