Taiwan’s island of Kinmen is looking to boost its tourism profile but won’t be legalizing casinos any time soon.
On a recent visit to Macau to drum up business, Vice Mayor Wu Yu Chin ruled out gambling as a drawing card despite the island’s proximity to mainland China.
“For the citizens of Kinmen having casinos would completely change their peaceful lives,” he said. “Many are sceptical and afraid that it could bring security problems.”
At an event held at Macau Tower, a delegation led by Mr Wu promoted Kinmen’s local culture, food, arts and crafts for its tourism attractions and focused on investment incentives and infrastructure projects under way to make the island more attractive as a destination.
