Crown Melbourne Taken for Millions in Surveillance Breach

Crown Melbourne has been scammed for US$32 million after a gambler gained access to the casino’s “eye in the sky”.

News reports out of Australia say CCTV cameras monitoring a high-stakes room were tapped remotely during eight hands of cards, and the resultant play cost the casino the largest loss in its 19-year history.

Unnamed sources cited by Victoria daily the Herald Sun said the player was ejected from the casino and has since returned to his home country. A services manager was fired. Crown said an investigation was ongoing and that the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation had been briefed. The company added that it expected to recover a “significant portion” of the money.
