Macau casino operator Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM) is sponsoring two performances by the National Ballet of China at the Macau Cultural Centre this November.
The first is Ballet Gala on 24th November. It was specially created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the National Ballet. The second is Onegin, on 27th November. Onegin’s plot is based on the verse novel ‘Eugene Onegin’ by the 19th century Russian writer Alexander Pushkin. The version to be performed in Macau is the acclaimed choreography by John Cranko using music from the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
“Once again, SJM is pleased to bring to the city brilliant performances by the National Ballet of China, dedicated to enriching the cultural life of Macau citizens while promoting cultural exchange between Macau and China,” said the casino operator in a statement.
The NBC was set up in 1959 and is the only national ballet company in China. Over the years, NBC has introduced its audience to outstanding ballet works, both classical and contemporary.
