Firms rarely go bust on account of having too few senior managers. But it often pays to have more of the right sort.

In that regard Las Vegas Sands has announced it is ‘bolstering’ its ‘Asia Management Team’ (the company’s use of capital letters, not ours).

LVS has named Leonard DeAngelo senior vice president of Asia operations in advance of the opening of the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore later this year. He will have wide ranging responsibilities for all gaming and hotel operations in Asia as well as the company’s sales and marketing functions in the region, says LVS.

Mr DeAngelo is described as a seasoned gaming executive who most recently served as executive vice president of operations for Penn National Gaming, where he was responsible for the management of 17 racing and gaming facilities throughout the United States.

The company says Mr DeAngelo will “initially focus his efforts on further streamlining the company’s operations in Macao and implementing additional operating efficiencies at the company’s properties there.”

So he’ll be the one making the cuts then. Good luck to him.

The company also announced it has appointed Nigel Roberts as president of Marina Bay Sands. He will be responsible for preparing the property for its opening and subsequently overseeing its various operational functions, says LVS.

Mr Roberts has more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry in Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and Australia. He has held general management and senior operational roles with some of the world’s leading hospitality companies, including Cunard, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Most recently he served as senior vice president of operations for The Langham Hotels and Resorts.

In another executive shakeup, Bradley H. Stone, who has served as LVS’s executive vice president since 1995, has been additionally appointed to the newly created position of president of global operations and construction. The company said the new title recognises his ongoing contributions to the company and his overall role in the development and operation of the company’s integrated resort properties in the US and Asia.
