An intriguing paragraph about the Packer family’s Macau gaming investments caught our eye in the normally reliable Australian Financial Review this week.
“There are reports of Kerry Packer attempting to exit Macau altogether by orchestrating an asset swap with Harrah’s Entertainment in the United States,” stated a line in a brief story on the prospects for Melco Crown Entertainment’s City of Dreams resort due to open later this year on Macau’s Cotai Strip.
Kerry Packer died in December 2005, and to the best of Asian Gaming Intelligence‘s knowledge the family conglomerate formerly known as Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd didn’t acquire its share of a Macau gaming sub-licence until March 2006. Did we accidentally stumble across a mislabelled ’15 years ago this week’ section in the Financial Review, or does the publication have such impeccable contacts that its reporters have access to information from another dimension?
