There’s clear evidence that China’s visa restrictions aren’t reducing the overall number of visitors to Macau—at least when judged over the course of the year. The curbs are simply keeping out some of the heavier gamblers.
In October the number of visitors rose by eight percent when compared with the same period in 2007, with 2,623,548 arrivals, according to DSEC, the city’s Statistics and Census Service.
Visitors were mainly from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, accounting for 58.5 percent, 26.7 percent and 5.5 percent respectively of the total.
