India’s Delta Corp has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Everest Hospitality and Hotel, owners of the five-star Marriot Hotel in Kathmandu, Nepal, to lease space for the operation of a casino.
Citing the company’s plans to “expand its imprint outside India,” Delta Corp said it will now initiate steps to obtain a casino license from the government of Nepal with the proposed Marriott Hotel casino subject to gaining necessary approvals.
Nepal, which shares a 1,751km border with India, is seen as a unique opportunity to access the enormous Indian market with casino gaming banned in all but three states and territories.
Australian-listed Silver Heritage recently launched hotel operations at its US$51 million Tiger Palace Resort Bhairahawa, located 12km from the Indian border, with casino operations to commence on 30 November.
